This page is for those of you who are planning on shipping reptiles and need to know how to package and ship them. There are a few things you need to do in preparation before you start packing your reptiles for shipping.

  1. Decide on the method of shipping:
    a. USPS Express Mail - Check with your Postal Service for Rules and Regulations. Be sure you get the package to your Post Office early enough to meet that days shipment. You can also have it held at the destination Post office for Customer pick up. Packages are usually kept in heat-controlled faculties.
    b. UPS - Check with your Local Service Some do not ship reptiles.
    c. Airborne Express - Good choice if you can find a shipping station or have them do pick ups.
    d. FedEx - Some FedEx stations will not ship reptiles.
  2. Find out what the weather is going to be before shipping to determine if heat packs are needed or shipping needs to be halted until more suitable weather prevails.

NOTE: It is important that you do not feed your reptile the day of shipment.

These are the materials you will need to get started with.

  1. Cardboard carton.
  2. Styrofoam container
  3. Deli container (suitable to the size of the retile) or reptile bag. (We prefer the deli containers)
  4. Paper Towels
  5. News paper.
  • You can find the cartons with the syrofoam container at packaging supply stores, on the internet or check with pet stores to see if you can get one that they are otherwise throwing out. Or you can line a regular cardboard box with panels of foam cut to fit the bottom, top and sides of the INSIDE of the cardboard box.
  • Deli containers can be purchased at your local food store in the deli food section for pennies a piece.
  1. Place Syrofoam container inside the Cardboard carton.
  2. Place crumpled up news paper in the bottom of the container.
  3. Get Deli container and poke holes in it from the inside out. (This is to ensure no sharp edges inside the container that can harm the reptile)
  4. Place crumpled up or shredded paper towels in the deli container. (Make sure you leave some room for the reptile to move around in case it gets rolled around in shipping)
  5. Place reptile in deli container and snap and tape the lid on securely.
  6. Place deli container in the center of the box.

  1. Add cumpled up news paper around the deli contatiner on all sides and on top to secure the container in place.
  2. Tape heat pack to the lid or on the side of the Syrofoam container if needed.
  3. Put Styrofoam lid on.
  4. Close and Tape the carton.
  1. Mark the carton "Perishable and This Side Up" on all sides and the top.
  2. Make sure you mark the shipping contain clearly with the sender's name, address and telephone number, and the recipient's name, address and telephone numbers.
